Cheers to Rob for 25 Zombified years of kickass music, movies, and art of all forms! I was first introduced to Rob through the Twisted Metal video games and a best friend. It was probably around late 1999, but it wasnt until 2000 that I REALLY considered myself a fan and fell in love with this band. (My first and still favourite hard rock/metal artist!)
I first obtained Hellbilly and it just blew me away. So I started looking into other music this guy with long dread locks and an X in his head had done. It was then that I found Astro-Creep. Boy, was my mom pissed. I begged her in the store to buy it for me. She read the titles on the back......Grease, Paint, and Mokey Brains?.....Blood, Milk, and Sky?.....El Phantasmo and the Chicken Run Blast-O-Rama!?!?! She was a good christian at that time and thought this man was truely satanic. And at the time, being a really young kid, that just fueled my fire even more....Well, it still does, I guess. Needless to say, she caved. I got the album and quickly learned the words to every song. Later I bought LaSex, and after some time to grow on me, it became my favourite album for awhile. I remember having to sneak to the mall with a friend to by SSSS, because of the naked lady on the front. (again, I came from a really uptight christian household) Ah, fun childhood memories!
I remember the anticipation for Sinister Urge. I remember being on the site all the time. Right before the website makeover for Sinister Urge, there was this really cool intro with a flashing pentagram and a bunch of pics of Zombie flashing after it in rapid speed to the intro of the Dragula remix. Anybody remember those days? I remember the old message board. I used to post as AmericanFreak666.
Actually, maybe this should be made into a new topic, but I wonder if any of you guys were actually there? I remember Creaturecore, X, ~~**livingdeadgirl**~~, Bloody Kittie,....oh and those wonderful mods, ZOMBIESLAVE, troutsmom, and later, SATANSLAVE......
Memories indeed. I remember waiting 3 fucking years for House of 1000 Corpses, and shaking in my seat of excitement to finally see this thing, opening night, April 11th, 2003. I dressed up as Otis and I saw it with these 2 hot cheerleaders that were scared out of there mind. A party afterwards. Had my first sexual experience.
I could tell you really life changing stories that im sure none of you are interested in, but that matter a lot to me. And Zombie was there with me all the way! All through highschool, and girlfriends, and crap.
It may be the 25th anniversary for Rob Zombie as a musician, but it's also the 10 year anniversary for me as a fan. And as I type this, with a sigh of gratification and a reminiscent feeling of euphoria, I can say, without a doubt, that I will be here, still the fan that I am today, not just 10, 20, etc years from now....but a lifetime. A lifetime of Zombie. And I wouldnt have it any other way!
In fact, if it wasnt for Rob Zombie, I may not have a band today. He is and was one of my biggest inspirations, just as Alice Cooper and Ozzy was to him. I'll tell you a secret. There were times in my childhood...in my gradeschool years that I would wait for my parents to leave the house so that I could put on my own concert, pretending to be Rob Zombie. I think most kids look at porno on the family computer when the parents leave. But me, I would write a set list and I had my boombox that I would play the albums on. And I really did it true to how it really is, actually. I studied his moves and how he acted onstage. And when he talked and how he introduced songs, etc.. I went into such detail, that I came up with different setlists depending on what kind of show I wanted to do that night. For example, if it was an Ozzfest type show...it would be about a 10 song concert, and it would be a little different as opposed to an 18 song headlining tour. I dont know if it's more embarressing for your parents to catch you masturbating to porno when they walk in the door, or if your running around, jumping on furnature, singing to the Zombie songs.
I digress.
But eventually the day came where I realized I didnt have to "be Rob Zombie". I experimented doing the same setlist front room concert thing with Manson, and a few other bands....but soon I started writing songs. And it was after my first concert ever....Ozzy, Zombie, and Mudvayne on the Merry Mayhem Tour, that I knew I wanted to be a rockstar.
I took years before I found the right band members. And a lot of trial and error. But after much problems, and assholes, and grief beyond your imagination. The dream came true. My band opened for Rob Zombie. I hung out with Rob for quite awhile backstage. He's the coolest guy ever in person. Hopefully i'll get to tour with him someday.
Thanks Rob!
